His daughter was the most precious thing in his life. She was sweet and funny and smart, so exceptionally smart. This year, her school work got much harder. Still, she picked up multiplication like it was a second language. He was so proud of her.Â
Although inseparable, he wasn’t her biological father. He met her mother at a bar in a popular restaurant. She was pregnant, but not obviously so just yet. They hit it off almost instantly. For the next few weeks, they continued to meet there until he got brave enough to ask her out. They went out to the falls and a few other touristy places before heading back to her place for the night.Â
That night turned into a week, which turned into months. Five months after they met she gave birth to a beautiful baby girl. The first time he held her, it was love at first sight. He vowed right then to take care of the both of them. Â
They talked about marriage but she wasn’t ready yet, she said there were things she had to take care of first. There were always things. Still, he loved them deeply. He took on extra work to support them. Â
At first, she was always there with her daughter. As time passed, she grew thin and began to disappear throughout the day. Back to the bar, he guessed. He got daycare, then after-school care, then he began taking less work in order to make sure the daughter had someone to watch her. By the time she was old enough to learn multiplication, mom was almost gone.
That was until a strange Thursday. She came in and began packing up. She said she met another man and they were getting married. She wanted him to release her daughter, as if he had held her prisoner instead of care for her all these years. He didn’t have a choice. They weren’t married and he really had no rights to the child, so he let her go.
Six weeks later, he was served. she filed a restraining order on him. Two weeks after that, he was arrested. Molestation, they claimed. She said that her daughter was assaulted multiple times while in the bath at his house. They asked him if he ever gave her daughter a bath. He said yes. They asked if he ever had physical contact. He said of course. He taught her all the thing’s that her mother should have, like washing her hands and hair and behind the ears. He admitted to all of this, he thought of himself as her father. They asked if he had ever been given permission. He had, but they wanted proof, which there was none.
The daughter was too young to testify. Still, they asked questions. The officers asked her if he had given her a bath. “Of course, he also gave me toys and bubbles..” They asked if he had ever touched her. “Yes, he helped me wash my hair but not in a long time” He even brought her a towel if she forgot one.
Although innocent, the answers were twisted in a way that they were never meant. He was simply a father helping his daughter learn the importance of good hygiene and bathing regularly. The mother, seemingly from the start, had used him for his money and as a way to keep an unwanted child a way from her active lifestyle.Â
He got a public defender and promptly signed a plea deal. Minimum security for half of his life, serving time as an innocent man.
She later found her mom laying on the bathroom floor not breathing. fentynal.Â
His daughter was the most precious thing in his life. Now she’s an orphan that he’ll never see again.
